Donald Trump says FBI agents raided his Mar-a-Lago Florida home

Trump said FBI agents raided his Mar-a-Lago estate on Monday and broke into his safe in what his son acknowledged was part of an investigation into Trump's removal of official presidential records.

Merrick Garland said the Justice Department has requested to make public the property receipt, detailing what agents found inside Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate on Monday.

Donald Trump has called for the "immediate" release of the federal warrant the FBI used to search his Florida estate earlier this week.

In messages posted on his Truth Social platform last night, Mr Trump wrote: "Release the documents now!"

US presidents are required by the Presidential Records Act (PRA) to transfer all of their documents and emails to the NA.

Mr Trump at the time rejected reports that he had mishandled official records as "fake news".

Legal jeopardy is of course bad news for the former president, but don't believe for a minute this isn't also an enormous political opportunity

The search marks a major escalation in the months-long investigation into the handling of classified documents and comes as Mr Trump - who was in New York at the time

One look at his statement demonstrates the point: it is vintage Trump.

Donald Trump's other legal battles:
A House of Representatives select committee is investigating Mr Trump's actions surrounding the US Capitol riot on 6 January 2021

The Justice Department is examining the former president's challenge to the results of the 2020 presidential election
